New Jersey voter turnout is at 8.2% so far, with 530,525 advance votes cast

A total of 530,525 New Jerseyans have cast advance votes in tomorrow’s general election, placing the state’s voter turnout so far at 8.2%, according to an analysis conducted by Ryan Dubicki, an Associated Press election researcher.

The total includes 406,812 returned vote-by-mail ballots – roughly 70% of those cast in the 2022 federal election year – and 123,713 early, in-person votes statewide.  These numbers are through last night.

Democrats have cast 65% of all mail-in ballots marked as returned by county election officials, with 21% coming from Republicans.

Of those casting in-person early votes between October 28 and November 5, 45% are Democrats, 34% are Republicans, and 20% are unaffiliated voters.

Both parties are returning VBMs at a relatively equal rate (50% Democrats, 49% Republicans), just 26% of unaffiliated voters (sometimes known as independents) have sent their mail-in ballots back.

County clerks have mailed 919,411 mail-in ballots since September 23, with Democrats requesting 57% of them and 19% of the ballots sent to Republicans.
