Mahwah Republicans moved solidly to endorse Holly Schepisi for State Senate in the 39th district, where she is challenging 86-year-old State Sen. Gerald Cardinale in the Republican primary.

Schepisi was endorsed by Republican Municipal Chairman Robert Lockwood, Mayor Jim Wysocki, five township council members – George Ervin, Michelle Paz, Kim Bolan, Robert Ferguson and David May – and 19 members of the Mahwah Republican County Committee.

“This endorsement speaks volumes to the need for our party to move in a new direction and ensure the future for the 39th legislative district,” Schepisi said.  “I look forward to working with the Mahwah Republican Committee to continue to grow our party.”

Cardinale is seeking his 13th term in the State Senate.  He was elected to the Assembly in 1979 and the Senate in 1971.

Schepisi, 49, is a five-term assemblywoman.

Among the county committee members who endorsed Schepisi are former Bergen County Freeholder Robert Hermansen and 2020 congressional candidate Frank Pallotta.
