Jones: Trump’s hate-filled rally

OPINION

The most shocking thing about yesterday’s hate-filled Donald Trump rally at Madison Square Garden — beyond the disgusting comments themselves — is just how far the Republican Party has fallen.  The party of Lincoln has devolved into something disturbing and unrecognizable. And make no mistake, despite sporadic lukewarm explanations by national Republicans downplaying the disgusting comments that were spewed yesterday, the Republican Party continues to SUPPORT Donald Trump. They are raising money for him. They are campaigning for him. They are, even today, making calls on his behalf and getting people to vote for him. There is no light between the Republican Party and their supreme leader, Donald J. Trump. Even in New Jersey.

Candidates like Senate candidate Curtis Bashaw and Congressman Tom Kean, Jr., have publicly committed to voting for Donald Trump.  They have committed to serve the racist, misogynist, and hateful agenda of a man who has made his intentions clear: he wants mass deportations, he has said he will use our troops against civilians, and he says he will punish his personal enemies using our own Justice Department. And this is not all he has planned — every person in this country should read Project 2025 to fully understand Donald Trump’s terrifying vision for America should he be re-elected President. This Republican guide to cut Medicare and Medicaid, reject abortion as health care, and remove legal protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity is just the tip of the iceberg this country is going to hit if Trump and Republicans are successful this November.

The Republican Party has truly lost its way and yesterday’s rally should be a wakeup call to every single person in this state and throughout the country.
