The Hotel & Gaming Trades Council announced an endorsement of Ron Bautista for Hudson County Commissioner on Wednesday.
Bautista is running to succeed 5th district Commissioner Anthony “Stick” Romano, who is not seeking re-election. Bautista is a member of a unity slate that has the backing of established veterans and newly arrived progressives in Hudson County. He is the only candidate for the seat.
“Ron has long been serving the community through his advocacy for affordable housing, safer streets, and expanded opportunities for Hudson County youth,” HTC President Rich Maroko said in the announcement. “We are proud to endorse him in this election, and look forward to seeing that advocacy turn into action.”
The district includes Jersey City’s waterfront and all of Hoboken.
The HTC represents hotel, club, racetrack, and casino workers in New Jersey and New York.
“I’m proud to stand alongside the members of HTC. These workers keep our hospitality industry running, and their union has been on the front lines fighting for higher wages and stronger protections across the state,” said Ron Bautista. “We’re building a coalition that puts working families first. Together, we’re going to fight for more affordable housing, safer streets, and real protections for every worker in this county.”
Last week, HTC also took sides in Newark’s non-partisan municipal elections, endorsing six-term North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr. for re-election, and backing Josephine Garcia for an open at-large city council seat.
