Burlington County Commissioner Tom Pullion and Matawan Mayor Joseph Altomonte are supporting Steve Fulop’s campaign for the 2025 Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
Fulop, the three-term mayor of Jersey City, has already made inroads into Burlington County, winning endorsements from Burlington City Mayor Barry Conaway, Mount Holly Mayor Chris Banks, former Willingboro Mayor Jacqueline Jennings, and Eddie Freeman III, an Evesham councilman who is running for State Assembly on Fulop-backed slate.
“I know how important it is to have someone with real experience at the local level serve as our next governor, and no candidate can compare to the record of progress that Mayor Fulop has achieved in Jersey City,” said Pullion, who spent five years as an Edgewater school board member and fifteen years as a township committeeman, including two stints as mayor.
Burlington ranks 7th out of 21 counties with 140,499 registered Democrats.
All four Democratic legislators from Burlington County are backing former Senate President Steve Sweeney.
Altamonte, a Jersey City firefighter and battalion chief, has been mayor since 2016 and was the Democratic nominee for state senator in the 12th district in 2021.
“As a Firefighter, I’ve seen Mayor Fulop’s leadership and determination to keep people safe up close and I know that he’s the best choice for Governor,” Altamonte said. “I will be working hard alongside Steve’s campaign to get Matawan Democrats ready to elect him as our next governor.”
Fulop has also won endorsements from Marlboro Mayor Jonathan Hornik, former Red Bank Mayor Pat Menna, and former Keyport Mayor Collette Kennedy.
“We’re building support county by county each and every day of this campaign, and I can’t thank Commissioner Pullion and Mayor Altomonte enough for joining our team,” Fulop said. “The grassroots of the Democratic Party are ready for change and new leadership that puts their interests ahead of those of the party bosses, and it’s great to see more and more elected officials recognizing that and working together rather than fighting it.”
