Flora didn’t spend more than 1/3 of campaign funds

John Flora is at just 4.43% in his unsuccessful challenge to Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-Newark) in New Jersey’s 10th district, but at he was  shrewd enough to not spend his own money on a race where more than 9 ½  out of every 10 voters rejected him.

Newly-filed reports with the Federal Election Commission show that Flora raised $14,701 for his congressional campaign, including a $5,001 personal loan he made to his campaign when he launched it in June 2019.

It’s not clear what Flora will do with the $5,797 remaining in his campaign account – more than a third of what he raised.

He did not immediately respond to a 9:13 AM call on July 15 asking about his plans for surplus campaign funds.

Flora has three choices: he can hold on to the cash in case he runs again and wants to build on the 4.43% he received in his first bid for public office; he can return leftover cash to the small donors who kicked in $9,701; or he can pay back his own $5,001 loan and call it a day.
