Kevin Bing, the president of the Journal Square Community Association, will challenge incumbent Richard Boggiano for the Ward C City Council seat in the November non-partisan municipal election.
Boggiano., a colorful, sometimes controversial two-term councilman, is running on a slate headed by Mayor Steven Fulop.
“Whether it is new development, or the challenges we face from the COVID pandemic, Ward C is going through big changes,” Bing said. “It’s time to meet these challenges with a bold vision and leadership that makes sure the future we shape is one that works for everyone.”
In the last election, Boggiano won re-election to his Journal Square Council seat by a 43%-28% margin in a four-candidate field.
“Too often we’ve seen political leaders who lack a clear vision of a better future, complain about the way things are, and throw their hands up when asked for a solution,” Bing said.
Bing operates a family-owned manufacturing business and is a Democratic county committeeman in Jersey City.
“I want to provide an independent voice on city council,” he said. “I plan to lead on issues that will make a more equitable Jersey City and deliver on the solutions we can only achieve with a change in our city council seat.”
