Democratic operative Stephenine Dixon has joined Newark Mayor Ras Baraka’s gubernatorial campaign to serve as his South Jersey regional political director.
Dixon, a South Jersey native, most recently worked in Georgia as a deputy Get Out the Vote director for the Harris-Walz presidential campaign. In 2020, she worked on then-South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign as his regional organizing director in Iowa and his Alabama state director.
“Stephenine Dixon is a veteran in not just New Jersey politics but national politics, and we are thrilled to have her on board. Her deep roots in South Jersey and decades of experience organizing for change will be invaluable as we build a movement that represents every corner of our state,” Baraka said in a release. “I look forward to working with her to ensure that every voice is heard and every community is empowered.”
She also worked as a regional director on Stacey Abrams’ 2018 gubernatorial campaign in Georgia.
“I’ve dedicated my adult life to building power in communities that are too often overlooked, and I’m honored to bring that passion to the Ras Baraka for Governor campaign,” she said in the release. “Mayor Baraka’s vision for New Jersey is one rooted in equity, justice, and opportunity, and I’m ready to get to work to make that vision a reality in South Jersey.”
The Baraka campaign announced the hiring in a Friday press release.
