Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steve Sweeney has picked up the endorsement of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 94, a 4,000-member union, giving him his fourth IBEW endorsement so far.

“Steve Sweeney is the candidate from Labor, and truthfully, the only candidate who is actually running to be New Jersey’s governor,” said Local 94 Business Manager Joseph W. Checkley, “Local 94 and I want to stand behind Steve when he needs us, just like he stood behind us when we needed him.”

Checkley said Sweeney, the former Senate President and Ironworkers Union leader, has a history of protecting union jobs and for getting Zero Emission Credits to save nuclear reactors in Salem County.

“Without Steve, 600 full-time union men and women at Salem Hope Creek nuclear power plant would not be working in New Jersey today,” added Checkley. “We are excited to support him in this campaign and encourage all of our members and their families to rally behind him.”

Earlier this week, Sweeny was endorsed by IBEW Local 400.

“Steve Sweeney has consistently demonstrated his commitment to union workers and their families,” said Robert Shimko, the IBEW Local 400 president. “He understands the importance of fair wages, safe working conditions, and the need to invest in our infrastructure. His leadership has been crucial in the fight for the rights of working men and women in New Jersey.”
