Tracy Juanita Williams has become the first new councilwoman in Belleville’s 1st Ward in two decades, defeating Patricia Inaugurato with 61% and a 101-vote margin.
The seat was held by a local legend, Marie Strumolo Burke, until her death on March 8 at age 82.
In the 2nd Ward, where Steven Rovell is not running again, Frank Velez III scored a 54%-41% victory over Victor Mesce. A third candidate, Gary Hinton, received less than 5%.
Four years ago, Velez won 32% in his race against Rovell.
Diana Sorice Guardadbasco defeated Michael Sheldon by a 2-1 margin for the 4th Ward seat of John Notari, who did not seek re-election.
3rd Ward Councilman Vincent Cozzarelli was unopposed.
