More than 400,000 New Jerseyans have voted as of Thursday, according to an analysis by Associated Press researcher Ryan Dubicki.
408,261 New Jerseyans have submitted absentee ballots — Democrats accounted for 257,502, or about 63.1%, of that total. 1.041 million New Jerseyans have so far requested a mail-in ballot.
Early ballots from Democrats, who are more likely to vote early and have more registered voters in the state, generally outnumber Republican mail-in votes.
39.2% of voters have returned their absentee ballots as of Thursday.
In the competitive 7th congressional district, 43.5% of Democrats and 41.3% of Republicans have submitted their absentee ballots. Dubicki said the difference is similar to this point in 2022, when 39.8% of Democrats and 36.4% of Republicans had returned their ballots.
Two counties have surpassed 50% return rates: Cumberland and Cape May counties, both of which lie fully in the 2nd congressional district.
The 1st congressional district leads all districts in terms of total ballots submitted, with more than 65,000. No other county has reached 45,000 ballots submitted.
