Gov. Phil Murphy has tapped Eric Scheffler, the former Atlantic County sheriff, to serve as executive director of the Atlantic City Casino Reinvestment Authority, the New Jersey Globe has confirmed.
Scheffler, a former Atlantic City police lieutenant, served two terms as the Atlantic County sheriff before losing re-election last year.
CRDA does out millions of casino revenues for projects in Atlantic City and across the state.
The post had been vacant since December when Sean Pattwell departed. Maisha Moore, a former chief of staff to Atlantic City Mayor Frank Gilliam and an aide to U.S. Senator Cory Booker, had served as interim executive director.
He will become the fourth head of CRDA since Murphy took office.
Scheffler was elected sheriff in 2017 by a six-point margin against Republican Jack Glasser and re-elected with 55% against Republican Tokyo Joe O’Donoghue. In a rematch last year, O’Donoghue defeated Scheffler by 2,921 votes, 53%-47%.
