Latina Civic PAC has endorsed one of its founders, Patricia Campos-Medina, for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.

“Patricia is a consummate community builder,” said Noemi Velasquez, chair of the group’s endorsement committee. “Her lifelong commitment to, and advocacy of labor matters, women’s issues, immigration, and advancement of all people is testament that her experience has not been on the sideline, but in the trenches.”

If Campos-Medina wins, she will become the state’s second Hispanic U.S. Senator.  One of New Jersey’s two U.S. Senate seats has been held by a Hispanic, Bob Menendez, for more than eighteen years.

Campos-Medina runs The Worker Institute at Cornell University and is a former national assistant political director at SEIU and New Jersey state council director at UNITEHERE.

Campos-Medina has received endorsements from former Assemblywoman Sadaf Jaffer (D-Montgomery), former Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz, Oceanport Democratic Municipal Chairman Mike Sikand, and Dover Councilwoman Karol Ruiz.

But at last week’s Monmouth County Democratic convention, Campos-Medina received just 4% of the vote against Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) and First Lady Tammy Murphy.

Lack of fundraising and an inability to reach the 10% threshold at the Monmouth convention has kept Campos-Medina out of the first U.S. Senate debate between Kim and Murphy on Sunday, February 18 at 8 PM.
