Benjamin Daus, who volunteered on Tom Malinowski’s 2020 congressional campaign, died of injuries sustained in a fall on January 23 while hiking in Hawaii. He was 18 and a freshman at Cornell University.
LeRoy Goldblatt, a former legislative aide to Assemblyman Frank LoBiondo (R-Vineland), died on February 5. He was 87. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Goldblatt began his political involvement working on Richard Nixon’s 1968 campaign and on Charles Sandman’s successful challenge to Gov. William Cahill in the 1973 GOP primary. He worked for the New Jersey State Treasurer during the Whitman administration, and for the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s office as the Megan’s Law coordinator. He also spent 19 years on the Vineland Zoning Board and two years as the Vineland City Treasurer.
Frank Priore, who served as mayor of Parsippany from 1982 to 1994, died on February 7. He was 72.
Nicholas Krochta, who served as a Raritan borough councilman in the late 1960s and early 1970s, died on February 5. He was 91 and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Frank Walsh, a former councilman and school board member in Spring Lake Heights, died on February 1. He was 93. A U.S. Navy World War II veteran, Walsh was a public school teacher and two-term president of the Middlesex County Education Association. His wife, Margaret, passed away on January 30.
John O’Neill, a former Tuckerton school board member, died on February 5. He was 92.
Valentina Giacchi, who spent 25 years working at Hoboken City Hall, died on February 9. She was 79.
Anthony Chiumento, Sr., a former Winslow Township Planning Board member, died on February 7. He was 91.
Glenn Siemons, a former Northfield school board member, died on January 21. He was 75.
Robert Drake, a former East Amwell Fire Commissioner, died on February 10. He was 82.
Michael Kostelnik, a former Democratic county committeeman from Bayonne and an Election Day worker in Hudson County for more than 45 years, died on March 3. He was 63.
Jean Hicks, a former Wall Township Municipal Court deputy administrator, died on February 10. She was 91.
Joseph O’Leary, who spent 32 years as a Union County Sheriff’s officer, died on February 2 He was 82.
Blanca Oliveras, who worked on Democratic campaigns in Elizabeth, died on February 10. She was 79.
