Kamala Harris has picked up her first delegate in New Jersey, with Atlantic County Democratic Chairman Michael Suleiman endorsing her for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Suleiman is also the first county chair in New Jersey to publicly endorse a candidate to replace Joe Biden, who announced today that he would not seek re-election to the presidency.
“I join President Biden in endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to be our Democratic nominee for President. She is the only candidate that can use the existing campaign infrastructure to effectively tout the successes of the Biden-Harris Administration and offer a strong vision for the future,” said Suleiman. “As a duly elected delegate to the Democratic National Convention, I will be voting for her in Chicago next month.”
Earlier this month, Suleiman affirmed his support of Biden and asked other Democratic leaders in the state to join him.
“The concerns I have about changing presidential candidates four months before an election still remain; however, we can mitigate these concerns if we unite behind a candidate right now,” stated Suleiman. “A contested, divisive convention next month would only hinder the unity we desperately need.
Suleiman predicted that history “will remember Joe Biden as one of the most consequential, transformative, and accomplished presidents in American history.”
