Phil Murphy won’t run for president

New Jersey Governor could emerge as vice presidential contender

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy will not seek the Democratic nomination for president, several sources with knowledge of his plans told the New Jersey Globe.

But Murphy could emerge as a potential vice president candidate, depending on who the eventual nominee is. The sources said he has already received some calls from national Democratic leaders to discuss the vice presidency.

Murphy has been considering a presidential bid if Biden did not initially seek re-election. His hopes faded when Biden announced his candidacy.

The two-term governor and former U.S. Ambassador to Germany served as Democratic National Finance Chairman and chaired the National Governors Association and the Democratic Governors Association.
