A Quinnipiac University poll of registered Republicans in Pennsylvania has Donald Trump with a 48%-25% lead over Ron DeSantis, with Chris Christie and Mike Pence tied for third place with 5%.
Christie’s favorables in a state that borders New Jersey, where he was governor for eight years and shares a media market, is upside-down at 22%-57% among all voters and 19%-61% among Republicans.
The poll has Nikki Haley and Tim Scott at 4%, with all other candidates at 1% or less. Christie’s support climbs to 15% among moderate and liberal Pennsylvania Republicans, behind Trump (34%) and DeSantis (21%).
At a similar point in a June 2015 Quinnipiac poll, Christie’s Pennsylvania favorables also underwater: 35%-50% among, but he was at 54%-36% among Republicans.
Joe Biden leads Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. by a 61%-16% margin among registered Democrats, with Marianne Williamson at 5%.
In a head-to-head general election matchup, Trump (47%) and Biden (46%) are in a virtual dead heat for Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes. Biden carried the state in 2020 by 81,660 votes, a margin of less than 1.2%.
“Though battling fierce legal headwinds, Trump leaves the rest of the GOP pack — including Ron DeSantis — looking like ‘also rans’ and is running neck and neck with President Biden,” said Tim Malloy, a Quinnipiac polling analyst.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a former aide to U.S. Senator Bob Torricelli of New Jersey, has a 47%-23% approval rating. Voters approved of Shapiro’s handling of the I-95 highway collapse by a crushing 74%-8% margin.
Freshman U.S. Senator John Fetterman has upside-down approval ratings of 39%-50%.
