Calling on New Jerseyans to get behind their likely nominee, State Sen. Joseph Pennacchio (R-Montville) endorsed Donald Trump for President today.
“He’s going to be the candidate, and as soon as we all coalesce around Donald Trump, we can direction our energies against Joe Biden and the Democrats,” Pennacchio said.
One of the Senate’s most conservative members, Pennacchio, was co-chairman of Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign in New Jersey.
The Senate Assistant Minority Leader stressed that the timing of his endorsement had nothing to do with former Gov. Chris Christie’s withdrawal from the presidential race on Wednesday. Pennacchio said he never considered anyone but Trump.
“They all had their opportunities to state their case, and nobody moved the needle against Trump,” he said.
Despite coming from the same county as Christie – he was elected to the Morris County Board of Freeholders in 1998, one year after Christie lost re-election in a GOP primary – Pennacchio was not considered an ally while Christie was governor and Pennacchio was a state senator.
Pennacchio urged Trump to campaign in New Jersey and compete for the state’s fourteen electoral votes.
“I would hope that they don’t forget about New Jersey,” said Pennacchio. “I want him to come in.”
