N.J. Transit pulls self-praising social media post, blames rogue staffer

New Jersey Transit is blaming a controversial social media post touting a “great year” for the embattled public transportation system on a rogue social media staffer.

The much-mocked vanity video hyping its 2024 accomplishments was posted on December 31 but taken down after being skewered across multiple social media platforms.

“The post went out from a social media staffer without going through the appropriate approval process,” said Anthony M. Grieco, senior vice president for communications and customer experience.

Grieco’s explanation followed a refusal to explain from one of his underlings, Jim Smith, the chief communications officer.

“We would decline comment,” Smith initially said.

Hundreds of comments – mostly negative – followed the post.

Assemblyman Al Barlas (R-Cedar Grove) responded to the New Jersey Transit post on X/Twitter with a meme of a lipstick-wearing pig saying, “Yup.  Still a pig.”
