Assemblyman Brian Bergen (R-Denville) and Micah Rasmussen, the director of the Rebovich Institute of New Jersey Politics at Rider University, joined host David Wildstein on the New Jersey Globe Power Hour on Talk Radio 77 WABC on Saturday, May 8.
Bergen spoke about Gov. Phil Murphy’s plan to ease pandemic restrictions, President Joe Biden’s nomination of New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission chief Sue Fulton as the Assistant U.S. Secretary of Defense, and the possibility of his challenging Rep. Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey’s 11th district next year.
Rasmussen and Wildstein talked about the impact of a poll showing Murphy’s approval ratings at 57% and what that means to the governor’s re-election campaign.
Bergen is serving his first term in the New Jersey State Assembly. A Republican, he was elected to represent parts of Morris and Somerset counties in 2019 following the retirement of 12-term incumbent Michael Patrick Carroll and is seeking re-election to his second term.
The Assemblyman is a graduate of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point and served in the U.S. Army as an Apache attack helicopter pilot from 1997 to 2008.
Rasmussen joined Rider University in 2018 after spending more than a decade as an adjunct professor of political science. He served as press secretary to Gov. James E. McGreevey, managed several political campaigns, and held positions in the private and public sectors.
Wildstein is the editor of the New Jersey Globe.
