Statements on U.S. bombing of Iran

By David Wildstein, June 21 2025 11:50 pm

CONGRESSMAN JOSH GOTTHEIMER

“Tonight, the United States took critical and decisive action to protect America, and freedom and democracy at home and around the world — stopping Iran’s nuclear program in its tracks.

“Since 1979, the Iranian regime has been openly committed to the destruction of the United States of America — what they call the ‘Great Satan.’

“In support of that goal, Iran, the world’s leading sponsor of terror, has built a global network of terrorist proxies — including Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis — and has relentlessly pursued a nuclear weapon. They have killed and injured scores of American civilians, targeted our service members, and attacked our key democratic allies, including Israel.

“According to the IAEA, and as recently as last week, Iran has repeatedly violated their nuclear nonproliferation obligations. Their Fordow nuclear facility was key to the success of their nuclear program. Thanks to American might and leadership, it now sits in ruin.

“The destruction of Iran’s nuclear program is essential to ultimate peace in the Middle East. This is not a Democratic or Republican issue — dealing with the Iranian threat is central to America’s national security. The world is safer because of the actions of our brave service members. I’m praying for the safety of our service members in the region.”

CAIR-NEW JERSEY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SELAEDIN MAKSUT

“We strongly denounce Trump’s unlawful strike on Iran – a decision that serves Netanyahu’s interests rather than America’s. This dangerous move, taken without Congressional approval, threatens to pull the U.S. into another unnecessary war in the Middle East. It effectively ends diplomatic channels and may push Iran to abandon the Nuclear NonProliferation Treaty, potentially accelerating nuclear weapons development without IAEA oversight.”

“Despite Trump’s earlier promises to avoid wars, he’s now following the same destructive path of previous administrations by escalating tensions based on deception. We must end this aggression against Iran and withdraw support from Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.”

“We pray for the Iranian civilians caught in this conflict, and for the safety of U.S. personnel who may face repercussions. This dangerous escalation demands immediate action to restore peaceful diplomatic solutions.”

CONGRESSMAN CHRIS SMITH

“For far too long, the Islamic Republic of Iran—the world’s leading state sponsor of terror—has held the world hostage with nuclear threats and the export of violence through its terrorist proxies, including Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.

”Iranian threats of death to Israel and death to America are real and should never be ignored or trivialized—they mean it.

“President Trump’s decisive action to destroy the nuclear capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran—and the existential threat they present to American interests and its allies, especially Israel—is a clear message that the further proliferation of nuclear weapons is unacceptable.

“The strike to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities—including the enrichment and storage sites of Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz—demonstrate the clear resolve of President Trump and the United States to address critical threats that threaten American interests.

“To the men and women of the Armed Forces who executed this daring attack—and stand guard day and night protecting America—you deserve our sincerest gratitude and utmost thanks for putting yourself in harm’s way while taking action to protect Americans, not just today, but for the future.

“A nuclear-armed Iran would be a mortal danger not only to Israel and America but every country in the Middle East. Thanks to President Trump’s decisive action, Iran’s ability to threaten its neighbors, and the world, was dealt a significant and hopefully fatal blow.”
