Gov. Phil Murphy is heading to Washington, D.C. this afternoon to join President Joe Biden at a fundraiser for the Democratic Governors Association.

The event at an undisclosed private residence, will help fund key Democratic gubernatorial candidates across the U.S.

Murphy is the DGA vice chair and will assume the chairmanship for a second time next year.

Democrats are looking to flip governor’s seats in Arizona, Maryland, and Massachusetts, where Republican governors are retiring, and hold on to open governorships in Oregon and  Pennsylvania, where incumbents are not seeking re-election.

Several Democratic governors are in tough re-election contests, including Steve Sisolak of Nevada, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Michelle Lujan Grisham in New Mexico, and Tony Evers of Wisconsin.

The governor and First Lady Tammy Murphy will return to New Jersey later this evening.
