Former Appellate Court Judge Philip Carchman, Democratic State Chairman LeRoy Jones, Jr. and Essex County Republican Chairman Al Barlas, along with Rep. Christopher H. Smith (R-Manchester), will join host David Wildstein on the New Jersey Globe Power Hour on Talk Radio 77 WABC on Saturday, February 26 at 4:00 PM.
Carchman was the court-appointed tiebreaker on the New Jersey Apportionment Commission that redrew the state’s 40 legislative districts. Jones was the Democratic chair and Barlas was the Republican chair.
Smith, a ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, will talk about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. First elected to Congress in 1980, Smith is serving his 21st term and is the longest-serving congressman in New Jersey history. He has served on the Foreign Affairs Committee since 1985.
Chief Justice Stuart Rabner named Carchman as the 11th member of the legislative redistricting commission last fall. He served as Mercer County Prosecutor for more than four years before he became a Superior Court Judge in 1986. He later served as an appellate court judge and as acting administrative director of the courts before his retirement in 2012.
Jones became the Democratic State Chairman in 2021. He is also the Essex County Democratic Chairman. Jones served as an Essex County freeholder and was a four-term assemblyman.
Barlas has been the Essex GOP chairman for nearly a decade. He served as chief of staff to State Sen. Kevin O’Toole and is a senior vice president of Mercury, a global public affairs firm.
Wildstein is the editor of the New Jersey Globe.
