Willingboro councilman gets a year in prison

Willingboro Councilman Nat Anderson was sentenced to twelve months and one day in federal prison for his role in a mortgage fraud scheme after admitting he led a scheme to discharge a mortgage through a fraudulent short sale.

Anderson, a former mayor, has remained in office since he was charged in January 2024 with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud affecting a financial institution, one count of bank fraud, and two counts of making false statements on a loan application.

The 58-year-old Anderson was convicted in January of this year.

Despite the allegations, he was re-elected in 2025 after winning the Democratic primary and general elections without opposition.  It will be up to Attorney General Jennifer Davenport to file a motion to remove Anderson from office following his sentencing.

It’s too late to hold a special primary, so the nominee for a November special election will be the pick of the Willingboro Democratic county committee.

In their plan to obtain a new mortgage on a Willingboro property, documents falsely represented that the short sale was an arm’s-length transaction, that Chrisone Anderson had no prior business relationship with Nathaniel Anderson, that Nathaniel Anderson would not continue living in the property after the sale, and that Chrisone Anderson intended to occupy the property as her primary residence.

Chrisione Anderson was sentenced to eight months of home confinement for her role.  U.S. District Court Judge Robert Kirsch ordered them to pay nearly $222,000 in restitution to the victims of their crime.

Anderson’s attorney said he plans to appeal.
