Assemblywoman Shavonda Sumter (D-Paterson) endorsed Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small’s re-election Thursday.

“Mayor Marty Small, Sr. is a devoted leader with a passion for good government in Atlantic City,” Sumter said in a statement. “Mayor Small elevates the people and challenges businesses to work as partners with the community.”

Small, who took office after former Mayor Frank Gilliam resigned after admitting to embezzling more than $87,000 from a youth basketball league he started, faces Pamela Thomas-Fields in his bid for a full term.

Thomas-Fields has the backing of the Atlantic City Democratic Committee.

“Leadership matters, and trust in good leaders like Mayor Small leads to recovery and growth for communities,” Sumter said.
