A former chief of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department was arrested on charges of possessing child sexual abuse material, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced today.
Stephen Bojekian was charged after investigators from the Office Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at his Franklin Lakes Home on Thursday. The warrant was the result of an Internet child sexual abuse material probe.
Musella said the warrant revealed he viewed, downloaded, and held on to items depicting “nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children.”
Bojekian spent 26 years in the sheriff’s department and was named chief by then-Sheriff Joel Trella in 2002. He was retired in late 2004 after Trella was defeated for re-election to a second term by Democrat Leo McGuire, a former chief of the Bergen County Police Department.
He has spent the last two decades as a security consultant and investigator.
