Mira Prinz-Arey is resigning from her seat as a Jersey City councilwoman to become the executive director of the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation, Mayor Steve Fulop announced today.
“While she will be missed on the City Council, Mira’s deep understanding of our city’s needs, combined with her proven leadership, makes her uniquely qualified to drive the strategic initiatives that will create jobs, support small businesses, and strengthen Jersey City’s economy for years to come,” Fulop stated.
Prinz-Arey’s term is set to expire this year and had not taken steps to seek re-election to her Ward B seat. Three other candidates have already entered the race: Joel Brooks, Efrain Badilla Orleans, Jr., and Lorena Loayza; they are running with mayoral candidates Bill O’Dea, James E. McGreevey, and James Solomon, respectively.
The other eight city council members will pick an interim council member to fill the remaining 8 ½ months of Prinz-Arey’s term.
“It has truly been the honor of my life to serve as your councilperson, and I am honored to continue my work for Jersey City in a different capacity,” said Prinz-Arey, who was elected twice on a local slate headed by Fulop. “In my new role with the JCEDC, I look forward to advancing the five-year plan recently approved by the state. We will support for-profit and non-profit businesses of all sizes leveraging UEZ funding to drive economic development across all parts of the city.”
