Morris GOP once again holds county offices

It was another Republican sweep in Morris County, where Democrats haven’t won a countywide election in 50 years.

Incumbent County Clerk Ann Grossi, a Republican, was re-elected. She leads Democratic challenger Caroline O’Brien with 56% of the vote as of 12:01 a.m.

For county commissioner, the Republican incumbent, Tayfun Selen, has defeated Democrat Jonathan Sackett by a smaller margin. Selen has 54% of the vote to Sackett’s 46%.

Grossi was originally elected in 2013; this will be her third term as County Clerk. O’Brien currently serves as the secretary for the Morris County Young Democrats.

Selen joined the board in 2020 to serve a one-year unexpired term; he then won re-election to a full term in 2021. He faced a contested primary this year from Paul DeGroot, who had previously defeated Selen in a 2022 congressional primary; with the county GOP on his side, Selen won 54%-46%.

Sackett is currently serving his second term on the Rockaway Township Council, and he is the chair of the Rockaway Democratic Committee.
