Edison mayoral candidate Sam Joshi today won the endorsement of Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, the latest in a drum beat of support he’s received after securing the Democratic organization line for the June primary.
“I have known Sam Joshi for many years and am pleased to endorse him for mayor of Edison Township,” said Coughlin, who lives in next-door Woodbridge. “Sam is a dedicated public service, committed to unifying his community, putting Edison on the path to fiscal stability and improving the quality of life for all of its residents.”
Joshi faces Mahesh Bhagia and Arthur Esposito in a bid for the Democratic nomination for mayor. The incumbent, Democrat Thomas Lankey, is skipping the primary but has not ruled out running as an independent.
“As a former local elected official, I am fully aware of how difficult it is to lead a municipality as large and diverse as Edison,” Coughlin stated. “There is no one more qualified for that job than Sam and I am committed to ensuring that he and his council slate win this June and November.”
