Democrats Zachary Astor and John Cane won both Hainesport Township Committee seats on Tuesday, unseating Republican Committeewoman Karen Tordy and defeating Republican Nicholas Scarlett, who sought the seat being vacated by retiring Committeeman Ken Montgomery.
Astor received 1,480 votes; Cane received 1,467. Tordy received 1,256 and Scarlett received 1,221.
The results flip control of the five-member Township Committee. Republicans entered the election with a 3-2 majority; Democrats, who won two seats in 2025, will now hold a 4-1 majority.
Hainesport is a Democratic-leaning township; Gov. Mikie Sherrill carried the township by 5 points in 2025. Kamala Harris carried the township by three points in 2024.
