Nearly two dozen Democratic county committee members, along with Galloway Democratic Municipal Chairman Doug Browne, and Somers Point Democratic Club president Kim O’Brien today endorsed Calvin Ferrara for the Democratic nomination for county clerk.

The embattled Democratic incumbent, Edward McGettigan, is not seeking re-election to a fourth term.

Ferrara, a former Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee staffer who had served  as deputy political director Amy Kennedy’s 2020 congressional campaign, announced his bid last week, just days before the New Jersey Globe first reported that McGettigan will step down.

Galloway Councilman Frank Santo and Absecon Councilman Donald Burroughs are also supporting Ferrara.

“I have come to know Calvin very well as we’ve worked together to elect more Democrats throughout Atlantic County,” O’Brien said.  “His passion for people and elections is compelling.

Santo said that Ferrara “has the energy and vigor that our party needs.”

“I have seen him become deeply involved in our community, both within Galloway and the entirety of Atlantic County, and I know he has the motivation to increase civic engagement through the County Clerk’s office,” said Santo.

Two other Democrats are seeking to replace McGettigan: Egg Harbor City Mayor Lisa Jiampetti and Mico Lucide, the former chairman of Atlantic County Revolution, a political club.

O’Brien said she got to see Ferrara in action during the Kennedy campaign.

“I watched him inspire countless volunteers and activists across South Jersey to get involved with the campaign and the elections process and I’m excited to see him bring a fresh perspective to the County Clerk’s office,”” she said.  “I know Calvin will commit himself towards increasing voter registration and participation. I personally support Calvin and believe him to be the best candidate for the job.”

Ferrara’s county committee endorsements include: Yolanda Cooper, Dennis Faherty, Ken Kachnic, Kathy Zeigenfus, Charlotte Carney, Solaiman Serneabad,  Nargis Serneabad,  Frank Rivera III,  Jason Babin,  Tom Corona,  Mary Corona,  Emteaj Hossain,  Afroza Parveen,  Josh Smith,  Maria Polillo, Bob Polillo,  John Devlin,  Nick Polito,  Tom Yarborough,  Michele Konopka,  Tom Konopka,  Laury-Ann Diaz, and Sue Goldstein.

“I am proud to release my first round of endorsements from Democratic committee members, leaders, elected officials, and activists from throughout Atlantic County today. To have earned the support of so many important members of our Democratic community here in Atlantic County is a true blessing,” said  Ferrara. “I look forward to working day and night as their next County Clerk to increase civic engagement, bilingual outreach, accountability, and integrity.”

He was also endorsed by a group of Democrats labeled as activists.
