Orange City Councilman Kerry Coley, arrested in March for making terroristic threats and brandishing a gun in October 2024, will not face criminal charges.
An East Ward councilman since 2014, Coley had allegedly displayed a gun during an incident involving a tow truck driver.
“The Essex County Grand Jury did not find sufficient evidence to sustain the return on an indictment,” said the county prosecutor, Theodore Stephens, in a letter last month.
Coley, a retired Orange police sergeant and U.S. Army veteran, is up for re-election in the May 2026 non-partisan muncipal election.
