Democrats retain Camden County offices

Democrats swept Camden County with ease, continuing a winning streak that began in 1991 when they regained control of county government despite a statewide Republican wave.

Edward McDonnell was re-elected to his eleventh term as a county commissioner on a ticket with Haddonfield Mayor Colleen Bianco Bezich. They defeated Republicans Christian Navarro and Robert Stone by about 61,000 votes.

In a race for an unexpired term, incumbent Jennifer Fleisher received over 65,000 votes more than her Republican challenger, Shane Bernat.

Surrogate Michelle Gentek-Mayer won her third five-year term against Republican Adam Nieves, 69%-31%.

Bianco Bezich will replace Virginia Betteridge, who did not seek re-election this year. Fleisher, a former school board member and the wife of Cherry Hill Mayor Dave Fleisher, won a special election convention earlier this year after Melinda Kane resigned to become an assemblywoman.

McDonnell is the third-longest-serving county commissioner in the state after Camden’s Jeff Nash (1991) and Essex’s Pat Sebold (1993).
