Camden County Democrats pulled off a clean sweep to keep the county completely Democratic, the New Jersey Globe projects.
The Camden Democratic machine coasted to victory in June’s primaries even without the help of the county line, and Tuesday’s elections went just as smoothly for the party. Three Democratic incumbents secured victory in commissioner races, while Chuck Billingham won the shrievalty and Pamela Lampitt secured the clerkship.
Lampitt, an assemblywoman, will resign from the legislature to succeed Joseph Ripa as county clerk.
As of 9:04 p.m., Lampitt and Billingham lead 70%-30%.
Billingham will succeed Gilbert “Whip” Wilson, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Strangely enough, Billingham also preceded Wilson. The former (and soon-to-be sheriff) served as Camden’s sheriff from 2006 to 2015 before retiring.
Jeff Nash, Melinda Kane, and Al Dyer each won another term as county commissioner.
