About 7,000 Teaneck voters will get new ballots after mailing snafu

About 7,000 ballots in Teaneck were mailed with the wrong congressional candidate, causing Bergen County election officials to trigger the reprinting and remaining of ballots.

Ballots containing the names of the wrong congressional candidates will be voided and voters will need to return the correct ballot – even if they have already voted.

Teaneck is split between the 5th and 9th congressional districts and some voters received ballot for the wrong House district.  Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) represents about 80% of Teaneck, while Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) has the remainder the township.

The issue effects nearly one-third of the total voters in Teaneck.

Officials described the mistake as an error by an outside vendor who prepared the ballots for mailing.  The company will foot the cost of replacing the ballots.

Voters will receive a letter from county election officials explaining the error, which effects both of the districts.
