Uber launches digital ad campaign spotlighting high insurance mandates

Uber will begin a five-figure digital advertising campaign for the next two weeks highlighting their claims that rideshares in New Jersey face unjustly high insurance mandates.

The ads will air during the Democratic and Republican Gubernatorial Primary Debates as part of Uber’s effort to increase its footprint in New Jersey politics.

“On average, 33% of a New Jersey rider’s Uber fare goes directly to state-mandated insurance costs,” said Freddi Goldstein, a spokesperson for Uber.  “State mandates are driving up costs and taking money directly out of New Jerseyans’ pockets. There’s an easy fix, and we hope to work with the legislature to solve this problem in the coming months.”

According to Uber, New Jersey has among the highest state-mandated rideshare insurance costs in the nation.  The company says companies must have $1.5 million in liability coverage when a passenger is aboard – thirty times higher than the $50,000 per incident requirement – and 50% more than the $1 million liability coverage in a majority of U.S. states.
