Michael Maitland, who announced his departure last week as chief of staff to Rep. Donald Norcross (D-Camden), is joining the government affairs practice of McCarter & English as an advisor in their Washington office.
“Mike is an integral part of the ongoing expansion of our government affairs capabilities,” said Guillermo Artiles, McCarter’s Government Affairs practice chair. “His experience in Washington and Trenton gives him in-depth knowledge of people, policy, and protocol that will greatly benefit our clients.”
Maitland ran U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg’s South Jersey office and campaigns for Democratic state legislators before joining Norcross’ staff in 2014.
He’ll be replaced by Mary Campbell Cruz.
McCarter & English is one of the state’s largest law firms and the two sons of it’s founder served as attorney general of New Jersey: Thomas McCarter, a former New Jersey Senate Majority Leader, was nominated as the state’s top law enforcement official in 1902 by Gov. Franklin Murphy. After he resigned to become president of the Public Service Corporation (now PSE&G) in 1903, his brother, Robert McCarter, succeeded him.
