The New Jersey Globe will sponsor a debate between the Democratic candidates for State Senate in the 37th district on Sunday, May 2, at 9 PM.
Valerie Vainieri Huttle and Gordon Johnson have agreed to face off in a debate that will be streamed to the New Jersey Globe website and on its social media platforms: Facebook, You Tube and Twitter.
The two longtime members of the State Assembly are seeking the open Senate seat of Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, who is retiring at 16 years in the Senate and 12 in the Assembly.
The debate will be moderated by David Wildstein, the editor of the New Jersey Globe.
“While many campaigns have found alternative ways of speaking directly to voters online during the coronavirus pandemic, the ability to observe how candidates interact with their opponents is an important component to helping voters make an informed choice,” said Kevin Sanders, the general manager of the New Jersey Globe. “This is especially important as party organizations prepare to endorse candidates prior to the April filing deadline.”
“As New Jersey’s leader in hosting debates in the most carefully watched races in the state, the New Jersey Globe is pleased to present a debate at a time when attention is just beginning to focus on the race for state senate,” said Sanders.
Earlier today, Vainieri Huttle challenged Johnson to three debates in advance of the June 8 Demcoratic primary.
