South Jersey Democrats have decisively won re-election in the Camden-based 5th legislative district and the Cherry Hill-based 6th district, the New Jersey Globe projects, holding onto the two solidly Democratic districts that form the core of the organization’s legislative power.
In the 5th district, State Sen. Nilsa Cruz-Perez (D-Barrington) beat Democrat-turned-Republican Clyde Cook, a former councilman in Woodlynne, while Assemblymen Bill Moen (D-Bellmawr) and Bill Spearman (D-Camden) defeated Yalinda Pagan and school board member Joe Miller.
And in the 6th district, State Sen. James Beach (D-Voorhees), Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald (D-Voorhees), and Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt (D-Cherry Hill) defeated Republicans Mark Doogan, Danielle Barry, and Brian McRory.
Neither district hosted the slightest bit of intrigue in this year’s primary or general elections. The same can’t be said for the rest of South Jersey, however, and results in many of the competitive seats that border the 5th and 6th districts will determine how much legislative power South Jersey Democratic power broker George Norcross has going forward.
