Two top Roselle political leaders have endorsed Assemblywoman Annette Quijano (D-Elizabeth) for re-election, and will back Union County Commissioner Sergio Granados for an open Assembly seat in the 20th legislative district.
Support of Granados from Mayor Donald Shaw and Councilwoman-At-Large Denise Wilkerson signals an acceptance that Elizabeth, which makes up 49% of the registered Democrats in the district, will get two Assembly seats, with Union Township (34%) having the Senate seat.
The other incumbent, Rev. Reginald Atkins (D-Roselle), announced last week that he would not seek re-election to a third term.
“With Commissioner Granados, we know we have a proven leader who has always had Roselle’s back,” Shaw and Wilkerson said. “Commissioner Granados has been ever-present in the borough, he has directed significant resources to improve our roadways and support our seniors, and we know he has the energy and experience to represent our Borough well in the legislature.”
Council President Cindy Thomas, and Councilmembers Brandon Bernier, Rosie McCamery, and Isabel Sousa have also signed on in support of Quijano and Granados.
Eduardo Rodriguez, who had served as Elizabeth’s director of planning and community development in Bollwage’s administration, has also filed paperwork to run for Assembly.
