One of the most politically influential unions in New Jersey, the International Union of Operation Engineers Local 825, has endorsed Gordon Johnson for the Democratic State Senate nomination in the 37th district.
“As an assemblyman and during his distinguished career in law enforcement, Gordon Johnson has always been a staunch supporter of the labor movement,” said Greg Lalevee, the IUOE business manager. “Whether enforcing worker protections, supporting our right to organize or ensuring our critical infrastructure received proper investment, Gordon has always been there for Local 825 members and their families. We are proud to support election to the Senate.”
The endorsement of this particular union traditionally comes with strong financial resources and boots on the ground to help their candidates turn out voters.
Johnson, the Assembly Speaker Pro-Tempore, faces Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle in the Democratic Senate primary. Both want to succeed Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, who is retiring after 16 years in the Senate and 12 in the Assembly.
