Union County Commissioner Alexander Mirabella has endorsed Joe Signorello for State Senate in the 21st district.

Signorello, the mayor of Roselle Park, is unopposed for the Democratic nomination.  His opponent, state firefighters union president Eddie Donnelly, dropped out of the race today.

“Joe Signorello has been an outstanding public servant for the people of Roselle Park while serving as Mayor, “said Mirabella, the chairman of the Board of Commissioners. “He is creative, articulate, hardworking, and in tune with the needs of the residents of the 21st legislative district. I wholeheartedly support and endorse his candidacy in the upcoming June Democratic primary.”

Mirabella is serving is 8th term and is the lone Union County Commissioner to have defeated a Republican incumbent.   In 1997, Mirabella and Democrats Deborah Scanlan and Chester Holmes ousted GOP freeholders Frank Lehr, Henry Kurz and Ed Force.

He began his political career as a Roselle Park councilman in 1991.

The presumptive Republican candidate for State Senate is Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick (R-Westfield).  The longtime incumbent, Thomas Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield), the Senate Minority Leader, announced last month that he would not seek re-election.
