Assemblywoman-elect Tennille McCoy (D-Hamilton) has picked Devin Baker, an experienced legislative staffer, as her new chief of staff.

Baker served as chief of staff and legislative director to Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Englewood) from 2018 to 2022.  He spent three years as an aide to the Bergen County Board of Freeholders after working as a field organizer for the Bergen County Democratic organization.   He’s spent the last eighteen months as a legislative liaison for the Department of Children and Families.

McCoy, a former assistant commissioner of labor, won the 14th district Senate seat of Dan Benson (D-Hamiton), who resigned on December 31 after taking office as the new Mercer County Executive.

On Saturday, McCoy is expected to win an election to serve the remaining day of Benson’s unexpired term.  She’ll be sworn in as an assemblywoman on Monday and participate in the final day of the legislature’s lame-duck session.  On Tuesday, she’ll take the oath of office for the full two-year term she won in November.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to return to the Assembly and work alongside an exceptional member that is Assemblywoman-elect McCoy, whose dedication to community service knows no bounds,” Baker said.  “Observing her immense efforts on the campaign trail this year only further demonstrates her readiness to dive in and serve our constituents diligently.”
