State Sen.Gordon Johnson (D-Englewood) confirmed on Monday that he will seek re-election in 2027 to the New Jersey State Senate, representing the 37th legislative district.

“Yes, I intend to run,“ Johnson said

Johnson, 76, served in the State Assembly from 2002 until 2022, when he was elected to the Senate, succeeding then-Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg. Johnson currently serves as the chairman of the Senate Labor Committee.

He received 67% of the vote in 2021 and 73% in 2023.

Republicans have not won the Eastern Bergen County-based legislative district, since before the current multi-member districts were implemented in 1973.  Before that, the last Republican to represent the Englewood-Teaneck-Tenafly district was elected in 1969.

The 37th Legislative District includes the Bergen County municipalities of Bogota, Englewood, Englewood Cliffs, Fort Lee, Hackensack, Leonia, Palisades Park, Ridgefield Park, Teaneck, and Tenafly.
