Democrats running in the 16th legislative district are focusing on abortion in the first TV ad of this year’s elections.
The ad, “The Reason,” highlights newcomer Mitchelle Drulis, who is running for State Assembly on a slate with State Sen. Andrew Zicker (D-South Brunswick) and Assemblyman Roy Freiman (D-Hillsborough).
Drulis narrates the ad, which features her daughter – and Zwicker and Freiman – contrasting her position on abortion with the Republican candidate for State Senate, former Rep. Michael Pappas. The ad also includes images of the GOP Assembly candidates, Ross Traphagen and Grace Zhang.
Script: “Being a mom means she’s the reason I smile. But also the reason I worry. I worry about affording to stay here. I worry about her basic rights and freedoms. This is Michael Pappas, Ross Traphagen, and Grace Zhang. Pappas wants to ban all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest. Andrew Zwicker and Roy Freiman are fighting to protect our right to choose. I’m Mitchelle Drulis and she’s the reason I am too.”
Although the Democratic campaign declined to say how much they were spending on this specific ad, they are optimistic about their ads.
“It’s a significant investment in streaming and advertising through Election Day, showing the LD-16 Democratic Slate fighting for the future of our families,” said Frances Patano the Zwicker-Freiman-Drulis communications director.
