Jersey City residential workers secure union contract

Nearly 40 workers at six luxury buildings in Jersey City secured their first union contract, according to a Tuesday release. 

The union contract includes employer-paid healthcare, a $1 per hour raise next month, and a $3.25 per hour raise by the end of the four-year contract, according to the release. 32BJ SEIU announced the union contract, which includes workers from six buildings owned by Equity Residential and serviced by Guardian Services Industries.

“This victory shows that when essential workers in Jersey City come together, they can win and build momentum toward creating a more just Jersey City for all,” said Ana Maria Hill, the state director of 32BJ SEIU. “Quality jobs for concierges and porters fosters a skilled, dedicated and professional workforce.”

The group said the contract comes just days after a “Jersey City for All” rally that included Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Hudson County Executive Craig Guy.
