A former president of Communications Workers of America Local 81427 was charged today with embezzling about $100,000 from her union and another $534,470 from the union’s Welfare Fund and Pension Fund that she ran.
Dorothy McBride was released on a $250,000 bond after appearing before U.S. Magistrate Leda Dunn Wettre on Thursday.
Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael Honig announced that a complaint filed against the 74-year-old McBride today alleging that the ex-CWA official made regular unauthorized payments to her personal credit card from union bank accounts .
McBride was the union president from 1997 until 2018.
