Michael Noriega has picked up the endorsement of a Republican state senator in his bid to be confirmed as an associate justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court, with Vincent Polistina (R-Egg Harbor Township) becoming his fourth vote.
“Michael Noriega is an excellent choice as a nominee to the New Jersey Supreme Court,” said Polistina. “During his 20-year legal career, he has earned widespread respect throughout the legal community, as shown by his election as President-elect of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.”
Polistina called Noriega “a person of character and integrity.”
“The bipartisan support for his nomination is a strong signal that our judiciary must remain above politics,” Polistina said.
Gov. Murphy announced his nomination of Noriega on Monday.
The 45-year-old Union County immigration attorney would become the first public defender to serve on the state’s highest court.
