N.J. Courts dismiss nearly 88,000 minor drug offenses

By David Wildstein, July 12 2021 6:24 pm

Nearly 88,000 cases related to some marijuana and hashish convictions or pending cases have been dismissed since July 1, the New Jersey Judiciary announced on Monday.

The move follows Chief Justice Stuart Rabner’s July 1 order for the dismissal of some pending cases involving some eligible offenses, as well as rescinding some warrants for failure to appear.

Rabner’s order effects fourth-degree and disorderly persons offenses, including procession of certain drug paraphernalia.  Violations of probation and driver’s license suspension and revocations will also be dismissed.

Once the convictions are vacated, the Judiciary will move to expunge those cases from criminal records.
