Lou Manuel Albin, whose Newark Ironbound restaurant, Albin’s Deli and later Albin’s Ristorante, was well-known to the New Jersey political class, died on January 8. He was 75.
Betty Schneider, the first woman to serve as mayor of Neptune, died on January 18. She was 90. Schneider served on the Neptune Township Board of Education from 1974 to 1986 and spent six of those years as school board president. She was elected to the Neptune Township Committee in 1986 and again in 1993 and served a mayor in 1987 and 1994.
Christopher Byrnes, who served on the Palisades Park Council in the 1990s, died on January 4. He was 90. Byrnes served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Richard Kochanski, a former Linden Municipal Court Judge, died on January 16. He was 85. He served as Linden municipal prosecutor from 1965 to 1975 and as a judge from 1976 to 1993.
Ann Marie Sutton, who served as a secretary to several New Jersey Superior Court judges in Bergen County, died on January 13. She was 73.
Harry Rush, a former West Amwell Board of Education and Zoning Board member, died on January 17. He was 78.
Shirley Bronczyk, who served on the Mount Laurel Planning Board, died on January 13. She was 86.
Seely Drew, a former Lafayette Board of Education member, died on January 16. He was 94. Frew was a World War II Navy veteran.
